ISU World Team Trophy 2025: Ilia Malinin in a league of his own in men’s short program
In a dazzling display of athleticism, Ilia Malinin has once again proven why he’s a two-time world champion. At the ISU World Team Trophy 2025 held in Tokyo on April 17, Malinin dominated the men’s short program, scoring an impressive 106.08 points. This remarkable achievement places him a jaw-dropping 10 points ahead of France’s Adam Siao Him Fa, who secured second with a solid performance.
Despite not achieving a perfect score, Malinin’s artistic expression and technical prowess resonated strongly with judges and fans alike. Following him in third place is Jason Brown, who thrilled the audience with a season-best score of 93.82, ensuring the United States secured two of the top three spots in the rankings.
Kagiyama Yuma from Japan claimed the fourth spot, knocking down 93.68 points, showcasing the stiff competition at this prestigious event. The World Team Trophy serves as not just an exhibition, but a key opportunity for teams to evaluate their strengths and strategize ahead of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, where every fraction of a point could mean glory or heartache.

The Canadian pair of Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier followed closely behind with a score of 87.15, nearly matching their own season best. Not far behind, the Italian team of Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri secured third place at 84.58.
