Team USA Wins Second Straight and Sixth Total Gold at World Team Trophy
Tokyo, Japan – In a dazzling display of talent and teamwork, Team USA secured its second consecutive and sixth overall ISU World Team Trophy title on Saturday, April 19, 2025. This impressive triumph came as Team USA accumulated a historic 126 points, outpacing the previous record of 125 set by Russia in 2021.
In an exhilarating finish, Alysa Liu and Amber Glenn clinched victory with a stunning 1-2 finish in the women’s free skate, while Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov contributed solid performances that secured fifth place in pairs. The United States triumphed across six of eight segments, ensuring its status as a medaling team in every World Team Trophy since its inception in 2009.
“We are just beaming; I’m so insanely proud of this team,” stated Team Captain Jason Brown, his voice full of emotion. “Witnessing our unity and growth has been nothing short of incredible.”
Alysa Liu, the reigning World champion, skated to a personal-best score of 150.97. Performing to “MacArthur Park” by Donna Summer, Liu expressed joy, saying, “I’ll take this one!” Her electrifying routine showcased her technical prowess, including a remarkable three Lutz-triple toe combination.
Teammate Amber Glenn rebounded from a lackluster short program to deliver a remarkable free skate, achieving a personal best of 148.93. Skating to “I Will Find You” by Audiomachine, she impressed with a flawless triple Axel, remarking, “I got the job done.”
Vyacheslav Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov topped off USA’s team points, finishing fifth while facing challenges in their routine. Despite this, they expressed gratitude for their opportunity to compete.
With the podium sweep further solidifying their prowess, Team USA continues to raise the bar in international figure skating. Japan finished second with 110 points, while Italy claimed bronze with 86 points. For complete results from the ISU World Team Trophy 2025, visit the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone.
