ISU CS Nebelhorn Trophy 2025: Canada’s Stephen Gogolev Wins First Major Title
In an exhilarating display of talent at the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, Germany, held on Friday, September 26, Canada’s Stephen Gogolev emerged triumphant in the men’s singles event, clinching the first major title of his career. Setting the ice ablaze, Gogolev dominated the competition, outpacing second-placed American Andrew Torgashev by an impressive margin of over 15 points.
Gogolev, often regarded as an underdog, maintained his lead from the short program into the free skate. His score of 164.87 in the free skate, culminating in a total score of 255.06, underlined his progress and marked an impressive improvement of more than 20 points since the Cranberry Cup International earlier this month. This victory clearly reflects the young skater’s evolving skills as he prepares for a thrilling season ahead.
Torgashev started strong with a compelling short program but accounted for several falls during his free skate, holding onto his second-place effort with a cumulative score of 239.54. Switzerland’s Lukas Britschgi exemplified resilience, moving up from the fourth-short program position, securing third place overall with a score of 236.06.
The anticipation was palpable as Roman Sadovsky, also from Canada, entered the competition as the event favorite, having previously shown great form by winning last month’s Cranberry Cup in commanding fashion. A fifth-place short program, however, forced him to recalibrate. He delivered a solid free skate, scoring 154.95, to finish fifth with an overall score of 233.39.
As the figure skating season progresses, the performance at Nebelhorn sets the stage for more exciting events ahead. Fans can look forward to what this dynamic group of skaters will showcase in the upcoming competitions.
