The cheers echoed throughout the arena as Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps celebrated their crowning as the 2025 Skate Canada International champions. This victory continued to solidify their status in the professional figure skating arena, highlighting their remarkable resilience.
After trailing behind short program leaders Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin by four points, the Canadian pair showcased outstanding skill and determination, ultimately clinching their third consecutive Grand Prix title on home ice. Their score of 140.37 in the free skate heightened the pressure on the German duo, who faltered in crucial moments, particularly during their side-by-side jump combination and a throw triple flip.
With Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps finishing with a total score of 213.40, significantly ahead of Hase and Volodin’s 207.18, this result marked an impressive four-year streak of Grand Prix victories for this dynamic duo. Adding to their accolades, it also represented their sixth Grand Prix title overall.
Previously, Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps finished second to current world champions Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi, but they displayed remarkable growth in this latest performance. “We’re pretty happy with the performance,” said Stellato-Dudek. “It was a significant improvement from France. We still have some place to grow… but we showed more of what we have been doing in practice.”
The American pair, Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea, also delivered a stunning performance, achieving a career-best score of 133.63 in the free skate, bringing their total to 199.11. This leap secured them the bronze medal, surpassing Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, who finished with 186.54.
This electrifying event signifies the thrilling start of the figure skating season, as competitors gear up for more high-stakes performances leading to the Grand Prix Final. With tension and excitement surrounding the sport, fans of professional figure skating have much to look forward to in the upcoming events.
