Winter Olympics 2026: Spice Girls medley rocks Milano in epic Team GB rhythm dance
The Spice Girls are back at the Olympics! Fourteen years after thrilling fans at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Summer Games, British ice dancers Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson brought fresh energy to the Milano Ice Skating Arena, performing an electrifying rhythm dance on February 9, featuring some of the group’s greatest hits.
Fear and Gibson, reigning world bronze medallists, scored an impressive 85.47 points, earning fourth place in a highly competitive field. Currently leading the standings are France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron, who showcased their skills with a stellar score of 90.18. The pair’s ultimate showdown will come with the free dance scheduled for February 11.
In a move designed to evoke nostalgia, the International Skating Union selected “The Music, Dance Styles and Feeling of the 1990s” as the theme for this year’s rhythm dance. There could be no better representation of this iconic era than a lively medley consisting of fan favorites like “Wannabe,” “Viva Forever,” and “Spice Up Your Life.”
The atmosphere in the Milano Ice Skating Arena was electric, from the first notes as the near-capacity crowd responded enthusiastically to the dancers’ performance. “When the program started, I sensed the crowd’s reaction, and it just kept building,” Gibson recounted. The electricity in the arena fueled their performance, pushing them to dance with unyielding passion and enthusiasm.
As the competition ramps up, Fear remarked on their preparation: “We’ve trained so that we can go to the max every time.” The ice dance teams now enjoy a well-deserved day off, allowing them to rest and recuperate as they eagerly await Wednesday’s decisive free dance.
This thrilling chapter of professional figure skating, centered on the delights of 90s nostalgia, is set to add to the excitement of Milano Cortina 2026. As the anticipation builds, fans around the globe will surely be glued to their screens for every twist and turn of the competition.
