Figure skating’s Grand Prix Series returns to historic Lake Placid, New York, for the first time in eight years. Skate America 2025, the fifth of six stops on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, showcases reigning world champions Alysa Liu in women’s singles, Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi in pairs, and Madison Chock and Evan Bates in ice dance. These elite athletes will compete at the iconic 1980 Herb Brooks Arena, famously known for the Olympic hockey “Miracle on Ice.”
Leading the men’s field is popular figure skater Jason Brown, who is excited to compete in Lake Placid. “I have never been to Lake Placid. I can’t wait to skate in an arena with such a rich history,” Brown said. Scheduled from November 14 to 16, Brown’s entry marks his Grand Prix season debut, competing among tough contenders like reigning world silver medallist Mikhail Shaidorov of Kazakhstan.
For Liu, this will be her first Skate America appearance, following her silver medal at the Cup of China earlier this season. She aims to elevate her performance, shining alongside competitors like Higuchi Wakaba from Japan and South Korea’s Kim Chaeyeon.
The women’s singles event promises thrilling competition as Liu reveals she will maintain her previous programs, hinting at a possible Lady Gaga-themed free skate post-competition. Other notable participants include Watanabe Rinka, who recently landed a triple Axel, and seasoned competitors like Kim and Lee.
In pairs, Miura/Riku are set for a significant challenge. After triumphing at Grand Prix de France, they look to secure their fifth Grand Prix title, additionally putting them in the running for the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan. Cup of China victors Metelkina and Berulava will provide formidable competition.
Chock/Bates are scouting their fifth title here, showcasing triumphant experiences since their first win back in 2014. Supplemented by a robust field including Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, the ice dance competition brims with talent.
