The ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix NHK Trophy 2025 is set to light up the ice in Osaka, Japan from November 7-9, showcasing some of the world’s best skaters. With the Grand Prix series heating up, skaters will be vying not only for glory but also crucial qualifying points for the Grand Prix Final in December.
Leading the charge is Japan’s Sakamoto Kaori, who is on the brink of securing her spot in the final after earning silver at last month’s Grand Prix de France. Despite the fierce competition, the three-time world champion is widely seen as the skater to beat at the NHK Trophy, potentially paving her path to a remarkable season finale.
On the men’s side, double Olympic silver medallist Kagiyama Yuma will be making his much-anticipated season debut. Expect fierce competition, particularly from team-mate Sato Shun, who recently triumphed at the Cup of China. With both athletes looking to bolster their chances for the final, this competition is bound to be thrilling.
This year’s NHK Trophy marks a significant return for several skaters, including Loena Hendrickx, who sat out the previous season due to injury. Having qualified for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, she aims to make a strong comeback on Japanese ice. Additionally, the talented Shibutani siblings, renowned for their ice dance accolades, are also back after a brief hiatus, eagerly showcasing their innovative routines.
Another highlight to watch is the return of the Olympic pairs champions Sui Wenjing and Han Cong, who after a four-year layoff, is also participating in their first competition, aiming to establish themselves early this season.
