Figure skating – Skate America 2025: Madison Chock and Evan Bates halfway to record-tying fifth ice dance win at home Grand Prix

Madison Chock and Evan Bates are making waves in the world of professional figure skating as they approach a milestone achievement at Skate America. The esteemed American duo has set the ice ablaze with their rhythm dance, earning a remarkable score of 84.77 on Saturday, November 15th, in Lake Placid, New York. This impressive performance has positioned them a formidable seven points ahead of their nearest competitors, Marjorie LaJoie and Zachary Lagha of Canada, who sit at 77.42.

Chock and Bates, the three-time and reigning world champions, are ambitiously closing in on their fifth title at this prestigious event. Their journey at Skate America began back in 2014, marking a successful history that includes subsequent wins in 2015, 2022, and 2023.

This rhythmic display features a pulsating medley by Lenny Kravitz, captivating the Lake Placid audience and allowing Chock and Bates to achieve top scores in both technical and artistic elements. Their performance not only showcases their exceptional talent but also their dominance in the ice dance category.

Having already secured a victory at the Cup of China three weeks earlier, the duo’s success indicates a favorable trajectory towards qualifying for the Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan, next month, where the leading six teams across disciplines will compete.

“We’ve made a lot of improvements from Cup of China,” said Chock, 33. “And I was really happy with the way we performed today.”

Currently ranked third are France’s Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud at 76.72, while America’s Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko, once podium favorites, fell to fifth with a score of 72.74 after their rhythm dance.

Expect even more excitement in the days leading up to the Grand Prix Final as Chock and Bates strive to make history. Stay tuned for additional updates as they continue their quest for glory!
