Figure skating: Laurence Fournier-Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron set for Grand Prix debut as a duo

The ice dance world is buzzing as new partners Laurence Fournier-Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron prepare for their highly anticipated Grand Prix debut at the Grand Prix de France. Teaming up in January, the duo seeks to redefine their skating and forge a unique artistic identity.

Cizeron, the reigning Olympic ice dance champion, brings an impressive record to this partnership, winning gold at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, silver in 2018, and claiming five world titles with former partner Gabriella Papadakis. On the other hand, Fournier-Beaudry is an accomplished eight-time Grand Prix medallist with Nikolaj Sörensen.

Their journey has not been without challenges. After originally planning for competitive outings, their first event in September was scrapped due to music regulation issues from the International Skating Union. “It was essential to go back to the drawing board,” Fournier-Beaudry said, excited to bring a new rhythm dance to their home fans.

Cizeron acknowledged the metamorphosis this partnership has brought. “This new partnership allows us to rediscover ourselves; we really have nothing to lose.” A sentiment echoing Fournier-Beaudry’s belief that their shared past creates a seamless synergy on the ice. With training in Montreal for over a decade, their “ready-made” compatibility is notable.

The stacked entry list includes formidable competitors like former world medallists Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri and their Montreal training partners, Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson. But Fournier-Beaudry and Cizeron approach this season with a focused mindset: personal progression over public perception.

The duo’s sights are set on the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. However, Fournier-Beaudry must achieve French citizenship for the team to compete, adding another layer to their motivational journey.

Excitement builds as fans await their Grand Prix de France performance, showcasing a free dance to “The Whale” soundtrack, aimed at creating unforgettable moments. “We want to live in the moment and share that experience with people,” Fournier-Beaudry expressed.

As the figure skating narrative unfolds, all eyes are on this dynamic partnership in the hopes of not just participating in their first Grand Prix, but competing at the highest level with ambition and passion driving them, fulfilling their mutual dream of elevating ice dance to breathtaking new heights!
