KJ’s Ice Barn Honors Kerry Jo Fain, Opens Doors for Southern Utah’s Skating Community
In a remarkable display of community spirit, KJ’s Ice Barn, a state-of-the-art indoor skating facility located in Enoch, Utah, officially opened its doors in late 2024, realizing the dream of the late Kerry Jo Fain. Fain, a passionate advocate for year-round ice sports, was instrumental in bringing a permanent rink to Southern Utah—a venture that began in her heart and evolved into a celebrated reality.
Fain’s commitment to ice sports transformed the lives of local athletes and families. While battling stage four cancer, her vision for KJ’s Ice Barn persisted, thanks to the incredible support of her husband, Chad, and fellow community members. They combined their efforts to create makeshift rinks prior to establishing this permanent facility—an endeavor that was vital for youth pursuing skating and hockey in a state where ice access was previously limited.
Named in honor of Kerry Jo Fain, KJ’s Ice Barn quickly became more than just a rink; it stands as a vibrant community hub, promoting inclusivity and providing a variety of programs for all ages and skill levels. Chad Fain emphasizes that the vision for the rink was always about the community, stating, “Kerry left me with all the tools I needed to take care of the kids in this community.”
Sparking camaraderie between figure skating and hockey fans, the facility offers Learn to Skate USA classes, youth hockey programs, high school leagues, and adult sessions. At a hockey game in October 2024, KJ’s Ice Barn welcomed over 900 attendees, highlighting the remarkable impact it has already had.
“Our first event showed just how much hope and excitement our rink has ignited in this community,” said Alyssa Fain. Those sentiments resonate deeply with program director Ashley Haderlie, who describes the rink’s unique atmosphere: “No matter their experience or background, everyone is welcome here.”
