Green and Parsons Clinch Bronze at NHK Trophy
In a stunning comeback, Caroline Green and Michael Parsons secured a bronze medal at the 2025 NHK Trophy held in Osaka, Japan. This achievement marks their first podium finish since 2023 and an essential moment in their campaign for the season.
Only two weeks prior, the duo faced disappointment at the 2025 Cup of China, withdrawing after Parsons encountered an injury during the rhythm dance. However, on Saturday, they took to the ice with joy, culminating in a bronze medal performance that showcased their resilience.
Green and Parsons executed a captivating free dance to “Escalate” by Tsar B and “Son of Nyx” by Hozier, earning a score of 112.76 in the segment for a cumulative total of 187.90. Their routine featured an impressive start with two Level 4 elements, setting the stage for a powerful combination lift that received a program-best grade of execution. This element scored an impressive 13.92 points, emphasizing their synchronicity and skill.
Not far behind, their training partners Katarina Wolfkostin and Dimitry Tsarevski achieved their best international performance, placing fifth with a total score of 182.85. The newcomers executed notable elements including synchronized twizzles and a standout combination lift.
Returning after a hiatus since the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, the illustrious pair Maia Shibutani and Alex Sibutani also marked their return, finishing just sixth overall with a competitive free dance score.
In the pairs division, U.S. champions Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov outshined the field, finishing fifth, closely followed by Chan and Howe. Skating during their own pivotal moment showcased incredible progress and skill under pressure.
In the women’s category, Sarah Everhardt led the American contingent, clinching a commendable fifth place with her spirit-filled performance highlighted by a solid combination of jumps and spins, positioning herself as a rising star in the series this season.
The NHK Trophy underscored not only the stellar performances of Green and Parsons but the ongoing brilliance of U.S. figure skating in international competitions. Enthusiasts eagerly anticipate their next Grand Prix appearance, building momentum for the skaters across the country.
