Winter Olympics 2026: After injury scare, Deanna Stellato-Dudek set to compete in pairs figure skating event
In a thrilling turn of events, Canadian pairs figure skater Deanna Stellato-Dudek has been medically cleared to compete at the upcoming Winter Olympics after experiencing a concerning injury scare. Team Canada announced on February 10 that the 2024 world champion, alongside her partner Maxime Deschamps, had sustained a head injury during a training session on January 30. Fortunately, she has passed all necessary medical evaluations, and her participation is back on track.
The injury kept Stellato on the sidelines during the figure skating team event, where Canada finished in fifth place. Instead, she remained in Montreal to receive careful monitoring and evaluation from both Skate Canada and Team Canada’s medical teams. “I want to thank everyone for their concern and support,” Stellato shared, expressing relief over her recovery.
At 42 years old, Stellato’s return to the competitive figure skating scene is nothing short of remarkable. After a 16-year hiatus following a successful junior career, she made a comeback at the age of 33, defying all odds to compete among younger athletes. Her inspiring journey is prominently featured in the Olympic Channel documentary Deanna’s Dream, showcasing her dedication and resilience.
As Stellato prepares with excitement, she emphasized her focus on skating her absolute best alongside Deschamps. “Maxime and I respectfully ask the media to allow us space to focus on the competition,” she noted, maintaining a balance between responsibility and preparation.
Fans eagerly anticipate the pairs event scheduled for February 15 and 16, where Stellato and Deschamps will showcase their talents. Given their recent accolades and Stellato’s inspiring resurgence, this competition is set to be one of the most talked-about moments of the Winter Olympics 2026. Stay tuned for more updates as Stellato addresses reporters following her practice session on February 13!
