World Team Trophy 2025: Amber Glenn is back, ‘in a completely different head space’

Amber Glenn is back in Japan, and this time it’s a whole different ball game compared to her recent performances at the World Figure Skating Championships held in Boston. The US national champion says she is entering the season’s grand finale, the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, with a renewed sense of confidence and optimism.

“Boston was a whirlwind, and I left off on a good note,” Glenn shared with Olympics.com while preparing for the ISU World Team Trophy 2025. “I’m proud of my teammates and our performance as a team.” Despite ranking fifth at the Worlds, she highlighted her mental and emotional trajectory, considering improvements made over the past two years.

Reflecting on her situation in Boston, Glenn acknowledged the challenges she faced leading up to the championships. “The training environment was tough,” she recounted. “I was processing grief due to personal losses, which definitely impacted my performance.” Despite being a strong contender alongside three-time champion Sakamoto Kaori, she faltered in both the short and free programs.

“Competing under expectations was a challenge, but it was my mental health that needed focus,” said Glenn. “I was grappling with existential fears due to loss, making training tough.” However, she feels rejuvenated amid the Olympic tour: “I’m in a different head space, and I’ve learned what I need going forward.”

Joined by a team of champions including men’s singles star Ilia Malinin, and ice dance duo Madison Chock and Evan Bates, Glenn aims to defend the title for the United States.

“My journey is a dream fulfilled, something I’ve aspired to for years,” she noted, revealing her passion for both showcasing talent and building team connections. As she gears up for the Olympic season, her focus on strategic mental health management is at the forefront. “I want to peak at the right time, both mentally and physically,” Glenn concluded.
