‘We came here to perform’: Alysa Liu revels in shared brilliance at U.S. Championships
Alysa Liu loves to put on a show – and she brings that passion to life during every performance. After a remarkable short program, the young skater exclaimed, “I feel over the moon right now.” With a glowing sense of pride, she reflected, “I’m so happy with that short program, I would say that’s my favorite short program I’ve done and performed for an audience.”
Liu, alongside fellow competitors Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito, captivated audiences at the 2026 U.S. Figure Skating Championships held at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Their performance during the women’s short program was not only memorable but also showcased unparalleled talent. Riding high on a score of 81.11, Liu secured second place, with Glenn leading at 83.05 and Levito in third at 75.72. The trio’s formidable presence highlights a new era for U.S. Ladies’ figure skating.
All three skaters have not only claimed national titles but also finished in the top five at last year’s World Championships in Boston, positioning Team USA with promising prospects for next month’s Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
In an era where competition can breed rivalry, Liu stated, “I like watching them skate… I view us all as independent artists.” Her sentiment reveals a refreshing atmosphere of mutual respect among them. “We came here to perform and show what we’re capable of, to entertain people.”
Liu emphasized the value of sharing the ice with skilled peers, explaining, “I get to learn a lot. I’m a very visual learner, so getting to skate with you guys is really rare for me.” The joy of competition transforms into a mutual learning experience as they prepare for their next performances.
As anticipation builds, fans eagerly await Friday (9 January) for more thrilling displays of artistry and talent. This event not only serves as a stepping stone towards individual goals but also amplifies their determination to pursue Olympic dreams as a united force.
