In an inspiring turn of events, former Olympian Allison Reed has successfully made her way back to the competitive ice dancing scene, partnering with Saulius Ambrulevicius. Together, they excelled at the 2025 ISU Skate to Milano Figure Skating Qualifier, securing a coveted Olympic quota for Lithuania at the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Games.
Reed, who last graced the Olympic stage in Vancouver 2010, experienced close calls previously, having missed qualification at the 2025 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. However, the duo left nothing to chance this time, emerging victorious in both their programs with a total score of 198.73 points. Their stunning performance in Beijing featured explosive lifts and intricate choreography, which ultimately positioned them a significant 15.23 points ahead of Australian competitors Holly Harris and Jason Chan.
Harris and Chan, who narrowly missed an Olympic bid in Beijing 2022, showcased their skills in this qualifier. Their strong performance awarded them a quota for Australia in ice dance at Milano Cortina 2026, finishing with a score of 183.50 points.
Following closely behind in third place were Spain’s Sofia Val and Asaf Kazimov, who recorded a score of 170.32 points, marking their country’s second ice dance quota. The People’s Republic of China secured the last Olympic slot with Wang Shiyue and Liu Xinyu, who scored 168.83 points to clinch fourth place.
This qualifier not only highlighted Reed’s return but also showcased the growing strength of global figures in the sport. Ice dance has seen rising talent from countries like Australia and Spain, promising an exhilarating Olympic experience ahead.
As anticipation builds towards Milano Cortina 2026, one can only ponder what thrilling moments lie ahead in figure skating’s illustrious history.
