2025 National Showcase to Take Center Stage in Michigan This Week
The spotlight is on Rochester, Michigan, as skaters from across the country prepare to dazzle audiences at the 2025 National Showcase, set to take place from July 28 to August 2. This annual competition is a significant event in the figure skating calendar, offering a platform for athletes at various skill levels, from preliminary to masters, to showcase their talents in a highly creative format.
The National Showcase brings together skaters to compete in a total of 14 diverse categories. Among these are six singles categories that include emotional performance, choreographic artistry, lyrical pop, character performance, comedic impressions, and the themed event. For groups, the competition features a duet/trio, mini production ensemble, and production ensemble categories, alongside an open inflatable event that promises to contribute to the event’s unique flair. Additionally, adaptive athletes will have the opportunity to compete in individual, Unified partner, and duet/trio showcases, as well as a production ensemble event.
Skaters vying for top honors in six singles events and the duet/trio event will earn the chance to advance to one of the prestigious Parade of Champions on Saturday, August 2. Categories in this elite showcase include senior, junior, adult, and a special founders division for skaters at the preliminary, pre-juvenile, and juvenile levels. This year, the theme event will pay tribute to the powerful legacy of Motown, allowing skaters to perform to classic tunes from the Detroit-based music genre.
This year’s showcase is hosted by the Harmony Theatre Company of Michigan, marking the event’s third visit to the Great Lakes State. The magic of the showcase format lies in its ability to transcend traditional competitive figure skating, blending theatricality with athleticism.
