The last regular-season ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix event, the 2025 Finlandia Trophy, is set to take place this weekend in Helsinki, Finland, on 21 and 22 November. This competition stands as the final opportunity for skaters to qualify for the prestigious December Grand Prix Final in Nagoya, Japan.
Among the star-studded lineup in Helsinki, Japan’s Kagiyama Yuma leads the pack as a four-time Worlds medallist and 2022 Olympic silver medallist. Joining him is Olympic ice dance champion Guillaume Cizeron, who will compete with new partner Laurence Fournier Beaudry. The stakes could not be higher as the top six performers from each event will secure their spots for the Grand Prix Final.
In the men’s division, the qualification scenario is clear-cut. Only three male skaters, including Kagiyama, Adam Siao Him Fa from France, and Jason Brown of the USA, are mathematically in contention for points that could advance them to Nagoya. Currently, Lukas Britschgi sits in sixth place with 20 points, which means financial fortunes are tied to performance at Helsinki.
As for the women’s competition, things are equally tight. Isabeau Levito, with 22 points accrued, is at risk of being overtaken, as several contenders aim for top placements to qualify. Amber Glenn and Japan’s Chiba Mone are poised as threats after both won their previous outings this season.
The pairs event sees returning champions Sui Wenjing and Han Cong likely to face elimination from the Final, while German pair Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin are in strong contention to secure their spots.
Meanwhile, in ice dance, U.S. duo Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier are motivated to shake off past disappointment. With a strong prior performance, they are looking for a statement win in Helsinki.
The lineup for the Finlandia Trophy includes key times for the events, kicking off with the Pairs short program on Friday at 14:00 EET. Detailed broadcast options ensure that fans worldwide don’t miss a second of this thrilling finale.
